HCG Dreadsorrow’s Quickie: Iron Man

This movie was quite simply the best one I have seen in 2008. I know this may upset people that thought The Dark Knight was better than The Godfather 1, 2, and 3 put together, but you are wrong. With no Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight would already be in the giant box at Walmart reserved for crappy movies that no one else wants either.
Iron man was a far better movie in my opinion, and my opinion is the only one that matters.
So anyway, along comes the obvious video game tie-in with the movie, and I simply had to download the demo from XBox Live and give it a try. Well, I loved the demo so much that I went out and plunked down $60 bucks for the game. Want to know what I thought about it? Of course you do.
First, let me say the the game is good looking. Not amazing, but good. After my comments are some tasty screenies for you to look at. A lot of critics sad bad things about the visuals, but since they disagree with me, they are wrong.
One thing that I will wholeheartedly agree with them on is the “frustrating controls”. Oh my science, the controls are not only frustrating, they are nigh on impossible. But then again, I do not as a player, seem to have the reflexes of Spiderman plus the timing and coordination of a concert pianist like most console game players, so maybe the rest of you will just find the controls frustrating after all. Though, just try to grab a hold of a jet fighter in mid flight, at full afterburner. Difficult doesn’t even begin to describe it.
To say the action is breakneck would be an understatement. Holy poop on a stick, s**t happens so fast, you should probably not try to keep track of everything, or your head might explode. You get bonuses for achieving missions goals apart from your main goal, like the death of no civilians, a time run of about 2 minutes on a map that takes you a half hour to complete, or some other equally improbable goal.
I wanted to like this game, I really did. I loved the movie, but sadly I have to say that I hated this game. If you must try this one, I would suggest Gamefly, or wait until it hits the bargain bin a year from now.
