About Us

At thehardcoregamer.com, we love games. In fact, it is fair to say we are obsessed with all-things video games. Our mission is to write about the things that really get us excited as gamers, and those things that really piss us off. Don’t expect us to hold back and don’t expect anything you are about to read to be censored. What can we say? Gaming is in our blood.

Who We Are:

thehardcoregamer.com staff is made up of real gamers. We don’t get paid to do this. Simply put, we f*****g love this s**t and that’s why we do it. Even though we are hardcore gamers, we still all have our own specialities. HCG Paco is the king of the first person shooter head shot as well as the occasional third-person adventure or arcade racer. HCG Musashi can tell you all you want to know about rare and hard to find Japanese imports as well as which Chocobo color needs to mate to create a gold Chocobo. HCG Dreadsorrow is the master of MMOs and PC strategy. And HCG KP1gL37 is our resident gamer chick who loves the bloody and gory horror games. Check out our staff profiles for more info on the crew.

Reviews:

The biggest pet peeve in gaming journalism is writers who play a game for an hour, and then write a review. Yes, it pisses us off, too. We believe it takes more than an hour to play a game and give a FAIR review. In fact, our policy is: we don’t review it unless we play the game to completion and beat it. Yes, this may mean less reviews from us, but you can count on a review based on REAL gameplay from the people who should be playing it. If you don’t like shooters, you won’t be reviewing that new title, you’ll be reviewing titles within your genre, and not just from playing 20 minutes of the demo.

Between the crew, we play a LOT of games at thehardcoregamer.com. In fact, we play so many games, that we don’t bother wasting our time on any piece of s**t games. Don’t expect to read a Madden review here….ever. What you can expect from our crew is a no-bullshit review that will tell you what we liked, what we didn’t and how the game made us feel from an experience standpoint. No stars or scores based on what the advertisers tell us to say. Just real and raw opinions from real gamers. Check out all of our reviews by searching through the reviews category

Quickies:

We get pretty emotional about our games, and love talking about them from the first moment we pick up that controller. But like we said, we won’t give you our “official” review until the game is beat. Quickies are a way for us to tell you what we are currently playing, and what we think so far. If we like a game enough, we will beat it, and eventually write a review for it. If we think a game sucks ass, you’ll never read anything about it other than a quickie (and expect that quickie to be harsh.) Check out all of our quickies by searching through the quickies category

Amazon.com

Yes, we love being whores for amazon.com and will often link to their products. Check out the s**t to get list for our current favorite amazon products. We’re not just out for a buck here, people. We love amazon because they have great deals for gamers. Here are five great reasons why every hardcore gamer should love amazon:

  1. Their prices are often 5-10% less (or more!) than any retail store (including Best Buy).
  2. They offer next day shipping to your door, which saves you from wasting the gas (and getting off your couch) to go to your local game store. They even offer same-day as the release shipping, so you can get it the day it comes out.
  3. With an Amazon Prime membership, you get 2-day shipping for FREE on anything you purchase for a year. Yes, it’s $70/year to become a member, but if you order games and DVDs like we do (which is often), it will pay for itself in the $ saved on 2-day shipping costs.
  4. They offer very cool and limited edition exclusives for popular game titles. I’m not just talking an unlock code or crappy keychain. I’m talking really cool art books, figures, controllers and even limited editions games exclusive to Amazon. Very sweet.
  5. They help keep track of your current collection, and offer surprisingly relevant recommendations based on the types of games you buy over time. We’ve found many a gem thanks to their recos. Plus you can keep an online wish list of all the games you are jonesing to buy.
