I dunno. Neither does anyone else, yet. It seems a little… sparse… Decide for yourself.

…Piracy may bring about the end of the PSP? We’re not talking piracy on the high seas here, we’re talking straight up illegal downloading of PSP games. In a recent interview with Gamasutra, Sony’s Peter Dille gave the scoop on all things Playstation, including the future of the PSP. Dille was quoted as saying, “We can look at data…and see how many copies are being downloaded illegally, and it’s frankly sickening.” He went on to say, “I think gamers, if they understood if this meant that a platform would go away, can we convince gamers to pay for their content?” Full story: Gamasutra
…Tuesday was the official birthday of GameBoy? The little portable gaming unit that could marked it’s 20th anniversary on April 21st. 20 years?!! Does that make anyone else feel ancient? I remember vividly when they first hit the scene. Excuse me while I sit in my grandma corner and cry now. Props to Gizmodo for posting a complete timeline/history of this mini legend of gaming. Check it out at: Gizmodo
…the Left 4 Dead Survival Pack is now available for download? This new game mode allows you and your team to battle a seemingly never ending group of infected (think: Horde mode in Gears 2.) You can download the PC version from Steam’s website, or on Xbox Live for 360 players. Details on the official Left 4 Dead blog are slim at best right now, but there is a great recap on Steam’s website of what is included in this download. Full story: Steam

Left 4 Head is the Left 4 Dead Porno. Bow-Chika-WTF!?!
Posted by HCG Paco | Filed under News
In the tradition of “Nailin Palin” (which, btw looks like Citizen Kane compared to this) some geniuses got together in a circle jerk of brilliance and decided to jump on the pop culture bandwagon and turn a quick trick by pumping out a porno quickie that is so bad words can’t describe it. I will however, give it a go without using anymore euphemisms or metaphors. At least I will try, I just need to bang this out. Damn this is hard. (That’s what she said. Last one. I promise.)

…Microsoft is courting us girl gamers in a big way? A recent marketing program for Xbox 360 gave female gamers a $150 Xbox pack in exchange for hosting a gaming night with 10 of their girlfriends. Goodies included a copy of Scene It, microwave popcorn, an Xbox universal remote and more. See ladies, us girl gamers are a valuable commodity! Full story: News-Press

…playing video games can help you win friends and influence people? Ok, so maybe not, but it can at least give you something to talk to the guys about. Our friends over at Destructoid have a great story to share about one hardcore gamer who made the journey from gaming nerd to “cool” gaming nerd. Great read.
…Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II multiplayer beta is available to download now for FREE? Check it out and enjoy the ork-y goodness at: Steam This is just a guess, but I’m thinking our own Dreadsorrow will have a little something to say about this…
…Penny Arcade has released a series of Left 4 Dead inspired valentines? Each features a hilarious, cartoony, gory ode to one of my favorite games of 2008. They were created by forum user beavotron. Check out the downloadable PDFs and then share the love at: Penny Arcade

Gaming 101: Left 4 Dead
Posted by HCG Paco | Filed under Editorials, Gaming 101, Left 4 Dead 101
Unlike most games, Left 4 Dead has a simple objective that requires simple strategies to complete. Only no one actually does them. Everyone (including me) thinks that they can run ahead and handle the onslaught alone. Well, they can’t. SO pay attention and pick up your pencils - class is about to begin.
WORK TOGETHER - Don’t be THAT guy.
Co-operation is key in Left 4 Dead. Don’t be a lone wolf. Don’t be Rambo. Be the A-Team. Stick together and communicate. The special zombies (especially in Versus) will pick off the lead scout or the flank straggler. Don’t be that guy.

…the new DLC for Fable II is now available on Xbox Live? It will cost you 800 MS points ($10) but it’s totally worth it for what you get. Games Radar has unveiled a really entertaining and sometimes mind blowing list of video game voices, that kept me hooked for the whole read. It’s worth checking out at: Games Radar
…Gears of War 2 is losing the sales war to Call of Duty: World at War? According to the latest US sales numbers, Gears 2 has sold about 2.8M units to date, but COD:WaW snuck past them last week with about 3M units. Let’s not forget that Gears had a one week head start, and yet they still fell behind. Check out the numbers at: VG Chartz

KP1gL37’s 2008 Games of the Year
Posted by HCG KP1gL37 | Filed under Games of the Year, Reviews
2008 was a pretty stellar year in gaming. With more than a few highly-anticipated sequels hitting the shelves, and a slew of original titles blowing me away, narrowing it down to my select chosen favs for the year turned out to be more challenging than I thought.
So here it is, KP1gL37’s 2008 games of the year:
Game of the Year: Prince of Persia for Xbox 360 (Released: Dec 9, 2008)
I agonized over Game of the Year for a few weeks, and finally gave in to my first instinct with Prince of Persia for the Xbox 360. Between the original platformer trilogy, the recent Sands Of Time trilogy and the countless other portable and remake versions, Prince of Persia has been gracing gaming since 1989, so you bet your ass this was one special remake to beat out the other amazing Game of the Year contenders.

Dreadsorrow’s 2008 Games Of The Year
Posted by HCG Dreadsorrow | Filed under Games of the Year, Reviews
I play mostly MMOs, but in recent weeks I have finally overcome my brainblocks to playing shooters on a console, and am enjoying them now immensely. However, I am still primarily an MMO player. I certainly hope that my favorite MMOs wind up on consoles someday, but I’m not holding my breath on that.
Anyway, I tried out a few new MMOs in 2008, but they were somewhat less than satisfying (e.g. Age of Conan). But with an MMO, expansions tend to add so much in terms of gameplay and content to the original game that I include MMO expansions among original releases when considering which is the best game released in any given year. So, without further fanfare or titillation…
GAME OF THE YEAR
Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria, nothing else is even close. LOTRO was already so epic in size, so true to Tolkien’s original vision, that I didn’t think it was possible to be any better.
WHY
The Mines of Moria expansion has added such an enormous amount of content that it boggles the mind. Everything was so well implemented, the launch so smooth, everything so bug-free, I had to really nitpick to find fault with the game. But most important, by playing this game, you get a real sense of how epic a virtual world can be, and how very small you can feel dwelling inside it. Turbine is not perfect, no game developer is. But their screw-ups are made insignificant by their successes.

Paco’s 2008 Games of the Year
Posted by HCG Paco | Filed under Games of the Year, Reviews
Here at The Hardcore Gamer we won’t make you scroll to the end of the page or burrow through defensive and jaded commentary filled with ads that are spread over seven pages instead of one just to justify bloated ad rates. So, let’s get going…
GAME OF THE YEAR
Metal Gear Solid 4 is my personal favorite game of the year. I don’t know if it is accessible for everyone in the way that Gears or Prince of Persia are, but more of a closing love letter to a rabid fan-base.
WHY
During the most stellar year in gaming since last year, Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid 4 left an indelible mark on my gaming soul for the rest of my life. The sound design rocked me, the graphics wowed me and the story moved me. Read my Metal Gear Solid 4 review for the gory details.
CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR
Prince of Persia, Duke Nuke’em 3D, Bully, Left4Dead, Fable 2, Burnout Paradise and Fallout 3. (In no particular order, calm down trolls) Read past the jump to discover (or confirm) why these 2008 classics get the attention they deserve.

If there are 2 things around The Hardcore Gamer that don’t seem to get old are Left 4 Dead and Rick Roll jokes.

P.S. - I almost peed my pants laughing during Lois’ part…
