It seems that Atlus, ~The Grand Poobas of Localization~ are looking to keeping us J-RPG junkies rollin’ on a binge well into Summer.

Slated for a June 2nd release, Knights in the Nightmare is the latest announcement to Atlus’ freakin impressive 2009 localization schedule.

Atlus also it putting the word out that Knights in the Nightmare will be unlike any other RPG you’ve played -EVER-; a pretty ballsy announcement, but in Atlus I trust…

…gamers are bidding farewell to Electronic Gaming Monthly? Publisher Ziff Davis announced that they are selling their 1Up gaming division to Hearst’s UGO Entertainment division, and the print magazine, EGM, will be the first casualty of the sale. …the FTC is getting involved in the whole DRM in video games issue? Thanks in part to the massive consumer backlash surrounding the SecuROM DRM/Spore issue of 2008, the FTC has decided to hold a conference on March 25th in Seattle to discuss DRM in more detail. While the hardcore gamers were battling it out in our usual Xbox 360 vs PS3 battle, Nintendo snuck in like a ninja and found their way under every casual gamer’s tree this Christmas. In fact, Nintendo sold so many of their fluffy and feel-good Wii and portable DS units, they TROUNCED Xbox 360 and Playstation sales combined.

Want some proof that those tried-and-true folks at Nintendo are laughing all the way to the bank? According to VG Chartz, Nintendo had four of the five top video game sales in the US and all five of the top five video game sales worldwide for the weeks ending Dec 20th and 19th, respectively.

…Nintendo is getting sued over a faulty DS AC adapter? Apparently, the adapter started a fire in a home in Kentucky, and the family’s insurance company is suing Nintendo for $236,304 to recoup the money they had to pay out to the family. Sounds a little shady to me, considering Nintendo already issued a recall because of overheating issues. Full story: Game Politics   

…the trailer for Guitar Hero Metallica has been released? To check it out in its full head banging glory, visit Metallica.com. Looks pretty rockin’ so far, and the band members look pretty accurate compared to the real dudes, so that’s a bonus. Look for the game in early 2009.

…if you are a female avatar in Playstation Home, you may get a little more attention than your bargained for? Apparently, reports and videos are coming in of male avatars swarming any female avatars that dare to come into the online environment, and yelling clever things like “nice rack.” Ok boys. Funny and all, but stop perpetuating the stereotype that you guys don’t know how the hell to talk to women. Even your avatars are pigs. That is just sad. …if your Xbox 360 is ever stolen from your dorm, your controller may be your built in low-jack? At least, that was the case for one college student, who after discovering his Xbox 360 was stolen, walked around his dorm with his controller until he found the matching Xbox (and the culprits.) …Halo 3 lead to an act of real violence and tragedy for an Ohio teenager? 17 year-old Daniel Petric (16 at the time of the murder) shot both his mother and father in the head because they would not allow him to play Halo 3. Amazingly, his father survived, but his mother was killed instantly. This is a very sad story, and one at the complete EXTREME of the “kids and violence” argument. …you can now play Katamari Damacy on your iPhone or iPod touch? The eclectic and charming title, best known for its Playstation roots, is now available for download in the app store. The game works using the built-in accelerometer, and has a lot of the same whimsy as the original. The iPhone version is called “i Love Katamari”, and you can pick it up in the iTunes app store for around $8. 

…Grand Theft Auto will be officially making its Nintendo DS debut in early 2009? The portable title, called “Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars” will be hitting US stores around March 17th (just in time for St. Patty’s Day!) and is noted to feature the same expansive game play we have come to expect from the franchise. …issues are already popping up in the open beta of Sony’s virtual environment, Home? Sony posted on their official Playstation blog yesterday, acknowledging that some users were experiencing problems accessing Home, and asking for patience while they resolve issues. Full story: Venture Beat 

…according to John Geleynse, Dir of Technolohu Evangalism at Apple, the iPhone is for all intents and purposes a “gaming console?” He went on to say that when it’s not being used as a phone, the iPhone provides a, “console experience.” We expect to see more and more titles available for the iPhone soon, based on the company’s clear indications that they see the iPhone as a threat to the DS and PSP. …Guitar Hero may be coming to an arcade near you in early 2009? Activision is teaming up with Raw Thrills and Konami to bring this fret-burning title to the arcade a la DDR. The arcade version will be based on Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Full story: MTV

…Nintendo is planning to launch a DS book reader similar to the Kindle? A deal was made between Nintendo and publisher, Harper Collins to bring “The 100 Classic Book Collection” to the DS. …you may soon be able to play Parasite Eve in the palm of your hand? The third in the series of Parasite Eve games will be coming to the Sony PSP, according to an announcement at the Tokoyo Game Show. …Nintendo had to issue an apology for a racial slur that accidentally made its way into Animal Crossing on the DS? Apparently, Nintendo sent out 14 copies of the game to members of the press already loaded up with a save game and user-generated content. …You can now bundle up your New Xbox Experience avatar with winter garb? The new clothing pack is available now for FREE on Xbox Live and includes cute hats, scarves and puffy coats. I have been waiting and waiting (and waiting some more) for the Ghostbusters game to finally be released. There was much delay, and even a switch in publishers to Atari, but it looks like the game based on the classic 80’s film may just see the light of day in 2009. According to the official press release from Atari, the game will be released in 2009 to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the film, and was written by Ghostbusters alum Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd. Also lending their voice talents and likeness are cast members Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson. The game will be available on Playstation 2 and 3, Xbox 360, PC,  Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS. Full press release after the jump.

In a press release dated Nov 18th, National Geographic officially announced the formation of National Geographic Games (NGG). The press release goes on to say that NGG has partnered with Namco Bandai and Sony to publish games for the Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 3, PCs and mobile devices such as the iPhone. The press release contains details on their first title, “Herod’s Lost Tomb” as well as a release schedule for future titles. Here’s hoping the folks over at NG can finally deliver an educational game that people actually want to play.
