Paco’s Review: Too Human
Posted by HCG Paco | Filed under Reviews
Metal Gear Solid 4 is the only game for me that has lived up to or surpassed the hype recently. Too Human frankly doesn’t even come close. What it did do though, was remind me why I spent over a hundred hours killing cows and blowing apart skeletons in Diablo. Too Human is crack, if you can look past its many flaws.
The story heats up so much at the end that I couldn’t wait to replay it and see what I missed now that the story started to make sense. Well, that and the fact that I got my first Red Drop.
The crack comes into play around hour 4 or 5, once you’ve become so numb to the glitchy music, repetitive enemies and shear boredom. I mean that with all due respect, but the fact that I became addicted is something to write home about. My obsession with stat counting and character tweaking got so bad that I had to limit myself to one equipment overhaul per level. Without it, I found myself pressing pause every 5 or 10 minutes when I picked up a new set of blueprints.

Buffy MMO Gets a Greenlight - Firefly Fans Get the Shaft Again
Posted by HCG Dreadsorrow | Filed under News, Rants
News came out a few days ago about the folks at Multiverse being told to devote all of their attention to an MMO based upon the Buffy The Vampire Slayer IP. At the same time, we also learned that FOX is taking a massive steaming crap all over Firefly yet again.
Even though I never was a fan of Buffy and the bizarre menagerie of characters on that show, I didn’t hate it either. So a Buffy MMO would go into the huge pile of games that I have no interest in. Other people would like it, and I’m all for turning more people onto MMOs by whatever license will get them hooked. I also was not surprised that the Firefly MMO was getting delayed, because it just seemed too good to be true in the first place.

Want To Buff Your Party Quick In Tales of Vesperia? Grab Your Wallet!
Posted by HCG Musashi | Filed under News
Are you tired of having to actually fight to gain experience? Wish there was a better way?
Well, worry no more! Namco has heard your prayers! Earlier this week, additional downloadable content was released that will not only boost you up an additional 15 levels, but will make you rich!
You think I’m joking?
I was wish I was.
Two “Level Up” packs are available for purchase. A +5 level packs and a +10 level pack. All together, the packs will run you 700 M$ points - around $8.75. Also, if you have some real world money and want to turn it into virtual money, worry no more. For 300 M$ points you can load yourself up with 300,000 Gald!
Yay! The Credit Card is now the most valuable item any RPG has ever seen!
We’re not done yet! Now that you’re 15 levels higher than you should be and 300,000 Gald richer, why not load up on rare Synthesis ingredients and skills!
Don’t work for it - just buy it!
Obviously, I think this is total Doo Doo. I’m all for extra content to lengthen or enhance a game, but when you literally can pay to make the game easier, what’s the point? To put this into perspective - I’m at around 12 hours or so in and I just hit level 30 with all my characters and have about 60,000 Gald. Purchasing these level packs and Gald pack would nearly bring you up what took me 12 hours to accomplish and you would have 5 times the gold. Does this not just stink of sanctioned cheating?
Finally, my math is not exact, but if you did want to purchase every DLC buff, you’d be looking at around 20 bucks or so for everything. Add that to the initial game cost and you’re looking at total just shy of a 100$.
Insane.

Nippon Ichi Announces Ar Tornelico 2 US Release Date!
Posted by HCG Musashi | Filed under News
Looks like Nippon Ichi Software is planning on helping Atlus make us RPG gamers broke as hell straight into 2009…
NIS announced in a press release today that Ar Tornelico 2 will be hitting US shelves sometime in December, more than likely before the holidays. The first Ar Tornelico was a bit of a sleeper hit here in the US, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Also, it looks like GUST studios worked on Ar Tornelico 2 as well; if you’ve ever played any of the PS2 Atelier Iris series or Mana-Khemia, then you have a good idea of what to expect.

There’s An RPG Storm A’Brewin On the Xbox360…
Posted by HCG Musashi | Filed under News
Even with top-sellers such as Fable and Knights of the Old Republic, the original Xbox never really developed a strong RPG library. You could almost say the same for the Xbox 360. While it has enjoyed it’s fair share of RPG’s in the past few years - some great (Oblivion) and some not so great (Two Worlds) - RPG fans still looked to the DS and PS2 for their fix of the good stuff.
Looks like that’s about to change. In the next 3 months (August-October), we are going to see some real epic RPGs hit the shelves.
Here’s the rundown if you want to keep score at home:
