According to the economist, the gaming industry is poised to break sales records this year, despite the abysmal downturn the economy has taken. …PS3s are being used for some really meaningful science experiments? In addition to the Folding@Home that has been available on the PS3 since launch, another group of scientists are putting the PS3 to scientific use. Scientists at the Univ. of Alabama and Univ. of Massachusetts are using the supercomputing power of the PS3 to research black holes. Sweet! Full story: PS3Center

Portal fans in Denmark themed their favorite bar a “portal bar” for the night, and developed a series of cocktails and decorations inspired by the addictive puzzle game. …your game face could reveal more than you think? A recent study was conducted with kids aged 9-16 to monitor their facial expressions while playing voilent video games. Some really interesting results came out of this study, including the fact that one particular face was ONLY made by kids who were paying Call of Duty? Fascinating video to watch. A Call To Arms

This Tuesday, there’s something more important on TV. Every week, you reserve some special time in your life for something important in your life…playing video games. We do too. This week, thehardcoregamer.com asks that you use your time Tuesday night to watch the 2nd presidential debate at 9 PM EST, and become an informed voter. That’s what we’ll be doing.

If you aren’t already registered to vote, there may still be time. Deadlines vary by state, so check out Rock The Vote’s Election Center for a list of deadlines by state. Remember, if you don’t vote, you give up your right to complain about government!
Finally, check out the Video Game Voters Network. There are some fine folks over there doing good work for all of us gamers by fighting censorship in games. It’s your voice, people. Let’s hear it!

New Addition To the Site: The Guides

The response to our line of guides for the hardcore gamer has been so overwhelming that we have launched a new section to the site, “The Guides.”
The first guide we moved over was the Rainbow Six Vegas Guide. Which has received an amazing new feature that no one else is offering, the Rainbow Six Vegas Rank Calculator. In the coming months and weeks we will be moving all of our current guides, (Oblivion, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and Dead Rising), to the new section. Also, look for brand new guides on some of the biggest games currently available, such as Viva Pinata and Crackdown.
If anyone is looking for advice or a guide on a specific game, feel free to suggest a topic because I’m sure one of the hardcore gamers on our staff can help you out.

The Hardcore Gamer Video Game Player

The Hardcore Gamer is proud to announce our new integrated video player. Rather than post our own videos within each blog post, we now have our own custom “The Hardcore Gamer Video Player” at the top of the page, right above the blog and news!
The benefits to this player as a user are straight forward as a hardcore gamer; More videos, less space. Just click the name of the video clip from the right side list and then click play. It’s that simple. Set it and forget it, just like Ron Popeil would want.
And to celebrate, we have launched the new player with the latest BioShock trailer. (Which should be done loading by the time you finish reading this post.) Unless, you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, you know that BioShock is one of the most anticipated games of 2007. Watch the trailer and see one of the reasons it is a great year to be a hardcore gamer.

The Hardcore Gamer’s First Annual HCG Pinup Girl has been revealed and she is a beauty, literally. Artist and Animator Caleb Sawyer was kind enough to create the first annual pinup girl, exclusively for TheHardcoreGamer.com
Keep an eye out in the mail for your limited edition postcard from us. Only 1000 postcards were printed and sent to industry professionals, random users, and a few celebrities that we know love games too.
Of course, if you weren’t lucky enough to get a limited print run, you can download her from the HCG Pinup 06 page now and grab her (no pun intended) for your desktop, Xbox 360 background or PSP.
