…you can play the NES classic Duck Hunt on the iPhone? There are a few versions, but the one closest to the original is LawMart’s non-Nintendo approved game called “Duck Hunt.” It is available for $.99 in the app store, and provides the same type of game play as the original, but with new controls and without the hunting dog (although LawMart says this is coming soon). I’d say grab this one QUICK before Nintendo puts a kibosh on it. Something tells me Nintendo doesn’t look too kindly on trademark infringement. Check out the app in action at: You Tube

…Capcom is gearing up to change distributors in Australia? Rumors abound that the gaming giant is swapping from Australian distributer Red Ant to either THQ or Atari. With so many big releases in the hopper for first quarter 09, this seems like a risky time to make that kind of move. Here’s hoping our hardcore gamer readers in Australia don’t see a delay in any of the upcoming Capcom releases as a result. Full story: Gameplayer.au
…Sony is still holding onto hope that the PS3 will (eventually) outsell the Xbox 360? Sony chairman, Kaz Hirai, recently stated that he is confident that the PS3 will outsell the 360 “at the end of the console generation’s cycle.” Um…not to be Debbie Downer here Kaz, but I’m thinking the chances of that happening are slim to done. Xbox has such a huge lead in sales, not to mention a game library that dwarfs the PS3’s offerings. But hey…hold on to that optimism. Full story: Endsights

They also have a system that links real names to online IDs and monitors blog commenting and sharing of online media. Can you say bug brother?! Full story: arstechnica

…Sony may have succeeded in creating an unhackable PSP? The most recent PSP that was released on Oct 14, 08 (the PSP-3000) has gone unhacked since its launch. Considering the previous PSP versions were hacked within what seemed like minutes of release, a few months seems like an eternity. Is it possible Sony finally got wise, and found a way to really lock it down? Give it another couple months, and then we can call this one a success. Full story: PSPWorld

…The PS2 is the console that will never die? According to Nielsen, the PS2 tops the list of console “usage minutes” in 2008 at 31.7%, beating out the Xbox 360 (17.2%), Wii (13.4%) and PS3 (7.3%). A “usage minute” is basically the percentage of total time measured playing consoles. So of ALL of the time gamers spent playing console games in 2008 (which I think must be a go-zillion minutes) 31.7% of those minutes were spent in front of a PS2. Surprised? I sure as hell was. What You Should Be Watching Right Now: The Guild
Posted by HCG KP1gL37 | Filed under Random Cool Stuff
I’m a big fan of Felicia Day. Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog has permanently placed Felicia into my “favorite actresses of our generation” column. So you can imagine my delight when I came across “The Guild” for FREE in the Xbox Live marketplace this weekend. The Guild is billed as an “online sitcom” and it follows the story of one particular WoW guild. Each episode was written and stars Felicia Day who is a notorious WoW player, along with a hilarious cast of characters who make up her online guild. Without giving away any spoilers, all I can say is that this series is a MUST SEE! The first season’s 10 episodes are available now for download for FREE (each is about 5 minutes) on Xbox Live and YouTube. Check out episode 1 below. I can’t wait to see where this show goes in season 2.

It’s no secret we love Guitar Hero and that some of our staff believe that the sequel, Guitar Hero II could be the game of the year. Which is no small feat concidering that 2006 was an epic year in terms of gaming; Gears of War, Viva Pinata, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Final Fantasy XII, Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops, Okami, New Super Mario Bros. and Zelda Twilight Princess are just some of the AAA games released this year and to say that Guitar Hero II deserves to be in that company is no small feat.
